Hot Springs Island

  1. Hot Springs island is a primal, overgrown place, 12 miles across, within a large archipelago known as the Swordfish Islands. Long ago, there was an Elven civilization here, but it grew decedent and collapsed. All that remains of the Elves that once leaved here is a ruined city nestled amongst the savage jungle.
  2. Currently, the island is home to a few groups who are at odds with one another. Some attempts to “civilize” it are being made by an unscrupulous trading company known as the Martel Company.
  3. As PCs, you will you learn about the mysteries of this island and the motivations of the creatures who inhabit it as their struggle to fulfill their goals plays out around you. Will you choose to assist a faction, or play them off against each other for your own gain? Regardless of what you decide to do, one thing is for certain; the situation is volatile and is likely to erupt into all out war.
  4. In the event of PC deaths, there will be a ready supply of other survivors, which will fortuitously be bumped into in the PCs travels shortly after a PC dies, so if you lose a character, you’re not out, the game continues.
  5. The style of game I want to run is simulationist, so that means tracking resources, time of day, giving monsters goals and rationale and simulating things outside the “player bubble”. I am not new to GM’ing, but I’m also not super experienced and I may occasionally request breaks so that I can think about the situation at hand and make sure I have situations unfold in a way that makes sense.
  6. I will be using Owlbear Rodeo to show the hex crawl and for any dungeon-eering or tactical battles as well as dice rolling, and we will use Discord for voice chat and to discuss scheduling issues.
  7. I’d like to vet players a bit before hand, to make sure they’re a fit for the game style I want to run and to give them a chance to ask any questions about my style of GM’ing.

Note: the setting does contain a few themes which some may find disturbing: slavery, drugs and violence, and these are non-negotiable parts of the setting.
