Blyth is a few miles north of Newcastle, it’s a port town, bit run down, but nice enough. The pier is very long so if you go to the end of it you can fish into fairly deep waters.

In summer you’ll find it quite busy with people fishing for Mackeral, and in winter it’s quieter and you just get the hardcore types fishing for codling.

In our trips there, we caught:

I also saw lots of sand eels and smaller fish at the pier footings. Sometime around 2023 though the fishing kinda died up there and rumour was that it was related to the dredging that was taking place all along the north east coast, which coroborates with the fishing further south around Saltburn/Redcar also drying up a bit, crustaceans even washed up dead on the shores there… weird.
